FRENCH CONFIT POT I

Nineteenth-century glazed confit pot from the south-west of France, with a yellow-ochre glaze to the inside and top half of the pot, and elegant handles.

 

Originally used for cooking and storing food, the pot would have been buried in the cellar and the top sealed with a layer of fat.

Condition: Some minor losses to glaze on the rim, handles and surface of the pot, the base of the pot has a drainage hole
